Councilman Costa Constantinides (D-Astoria), rear center left, and Rep. Joe Crowley (D-Bronx, Queens), rear center right, celebrated Library Day at the Steinway branch with elementary students from PS 122 and PS 234 on Saturday.
“Our city’s libraries provide irreplaceable services with attentive staff and robust programming,” Constantinides said in a written statement. “I was proud to celebrate those services with the students who use them.
“We must continue to support our libraries whether it is through celebrations like these or by providing the funding they need to stay open six days per week.”
The library, located at 21-45 31 St. in Astoria, celebrated with a magic show and story reading time by Constantinides and Crowley.
The electeds also honored the winners of an essay contest hosted in partnership with local elementary schools, which highlighted the services that the libraries provide to the community.
“Our local libraries are vitally important to our communities,” Crowley said.
Winners, front row, were given a special certificate honoring their writing.
