Two suspects have been apprehended in connection with a gunpoint robbery in Jackson Heights, police announced Tuesday.
Samuel Johnson,17, of the Bronx was charged with robbery and criminal possestion of stolen property after video footage captured three young men surrounding a 20-year-old man and robbing him at gunpoint just after 3 a.m. on July 11.
One held a gun to the man’s head, while the others took his possessions, smiling and laughing the whole time. The suspects reportedly accosted the victim at 72nd Street and Roosevelt Avenue after following him from the train station. After taking the man’s cellphone and money, the three suspects ran away.
The images of the attackers were captured clearly on video, making the job of identifying them somewhat easier. According to police, Johnson is believed to be the youth shown on the far left. The other suspect in custody is believed to be the youth wearing a backpack.
Police are still looking for the gunman who was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, a cap and Catholic rosary beads.
The name of the second suspect in custody has not been released because he hasn’t yet been charged, according to police.
