Carl Goodman has taken over as director of the Museum of the Moving Image, the Astoria cultural institution announced Tuesday.
Goodman previously served as the museum’s senior deputy director and will be the second to lead the multi-media facility.
“The moving image is more than just the defining art form of our time, it is an important part of our daily lives,” said Goodman in a statement. “For more than 20 years, the museum has been addressing and exploring the art, history, technology and social impact of screen culture in all its forms.”
Goodman, who started out as an educator at the museum in 1989, said he looks forward to leading the facility as it continues to grow.
Former director Rochelle Slovin, who shepherded the museum through its impressive redesign, lead it for the past 20 years. She announced her retirement late last year.
