Baxter Avenue was filled with the sounds of happy chatting and mariachi music on Friday for Elmhurst Hospital’s Cinco de Mayo street fair celebration. The event was cosponsored by Healthfirst, a nonprofit that offers government-sponsored insurance.
The festivities featured a live mariachi band, face painting and the Sarah Ortiz Trio, an area band.
Lucy García, director of Elmhurst Senior Center and the Institute for Puerto Rican/Hispanic Elderly, was honored for her community service .
“This Cinco de Mayo celebration brings together family fun, cultural celebration, and healthy living opportunities,” Healthfirst Vice President George Hulse said.
The fair is one way the hospital cares for the community, said Dario Centorcelli, Elmhurst Hospital’s associate executive director of external affairs.
