Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer’s office will honor western Queens residents who have taken up environmental causes.
Following the awards ceremony will be a free screening of the documentary “Gasland.” The film looks at drilling for natural gas in Pennsylvania and New York and how it can affect drinking water — including in Queens.
(The United Community Civic Association screened the film on Wednesday and has shown the film several times throughout the borough.)
The event will be held on Sunday, April 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Museum of the Moving Image at 36-01 35 Ave., Astoria.
Community members to be honored at the event will be: Carlos Dall’Orso, owner of Spokesman Cycles; Clare Doyle and Sandra Robishaw, co founders of ARROW Community Center; Elizabeth McQueen, founder of Friends of Queensbridge Park; Emilia Crotty, operations director of Bike NY’s Education Program; and Helen Ho, founder of Queens Green Drinks & Minority Bike Coalition.
