Ankur Joshi, an off-duty police officer, 35, was charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident on Tuesday, according to the NYPD.
Joshi alledgedly rear-ended the other vehicle at the corner of Steinway Street and 25th Avenue in Astoria at 5:25 a.m.
The other driver is said to have suffered minor neck and back injuries.
The NYPD said the victim’s name is not being released.
Joshi and the other driver exchanged information at the site of the accident, but when the victim decided to call 911, Joshi reportedly fled the scene.
According to the police, he was arrested six hours later at his residence.
Joshi refused a Breathalyzer at his home, and due to this was arrested.
The officer has been with the 114th Precinct in Astoria since March 2000, and crashed only five blocks from the stationhouse where he works.
Joshi was reportedly paid a salary of $76,488 last year, but has now been suspended from the force for a minimum of 30 days without pay.
