Donning a grey hooded sweatshirt and a solemn expression, City Councilman Danny Dromm (D-Jackson Heights) joined other council members outside City Hall on March 28 to demand justice in the death of Trayvon Martin, the Florida teen gunned down by a neighborhood watchman.

The lawmakers also carried bags of Skittles and bottles of iced tea, the kind Martin had purchased before he was shot. Following the press conference, the City Council voted in favor of a resolution condemning Martin’s shooting and what members consider the inadequate investigation that followed.

Queens Councilmen Dan Halloran, Eric Ulrich and Peter Vallone Jr., along with two from Staten Island abstained.

“I would like to express my deepest sympathies to Trayvon’s family and call upon local enforcement to fully and fairly investigate the case because such blatant injustices are not acceptable in our society,” Dromm said in a prepared statement.
