No one likes being sick, but when people are under the weather, they usually take comfort in the fact that they can turn to their neighborhood pharmacist for advice and, of course, to pick up their medications.

John Athanasatos, Pharm D, a local resident, opened his business, Triboro Pharmacy at 37-20 Ditmars Blvd. in Astoria, three months ago. He has been working as a pharmacist for about 10 years in both independent and chain stores.

At Triboro, you will find more than a friendly face behind the counter and quality customer care. Athanasatos also offers a full range of services. Some, he says, people would be hard-pressed to find anywhere else.

Triboro offers delivery of prescription orders and all items in the store seven days a week and flavoring of kids’ medications, which comes with a complimentary oral syringe and a special container.

“The flavoring and calibrated oral syringe ensures proper drug delivery with pediatric medicines and better compliance,” Athanasatos said.

To better accomodate the diversity of the surrounding area, Triboro has the ability to translate more than 100 languages verbally through a call-in service and 10 in written form.

“With Astoria being populated with many ethnicities, the ability to communicate with residents in their native language is invaluable,” Athanasatos said. “It is vital to make people feel comfortable and to be able to counsel them, ensuring proper drug use.”

But that’s not all.

Athanasatos offers a 10 percent discount on prescriptions for seniors and veterans, fax and copy services, a notary public, MetroCards, and a variety of Dead Sea and Burt’s Bees products, along with other organic items, as well as a variety of surgical products. This fall Athanasatos is set to administer the flu and pneumococcal vaccinations to his customers.

Triboro Pharmacy also offers prescription compounding, free blood pressure and glucose testing and a free demonstration of the electronic cigarette — a smoking cessation device — and Athanasatos welcomes all Express Scripts customers.

The store is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It can be reached by phone at (718) 777-7033 or by email at info@triboropharmacy.com
