The whitewashed “graffiti mecca” 5Pointz has remained a target for street artists, despite building owner Jerry Wolkoff shutting down operating to build a luxury apartment building.
Over the weekend, the Long Island City building was hit again, this time, with a giant yellow banner resembling caution tape that warns “Gentrification in Progress.”
The project was a collaboration between Gilf! and By Any Means Necessary, aka: BAMN, and is, no doubt, a response to the Wolkoff family disallowing street artists from painting the building anymore.
The artists shared photos on Instagram but have not commented on the project.
