For the 31st celebration, 10,000 New Yorkers came to Astoria Park on Monday to celebrate Independence Day a little early.

Just hours before, thunderous rain clouds made it look like the show might take a raincheck, but as in 2012, Mother Nature knew the show must go on.

The rain stopped around 4 p.m. and the music started at 6.

The Central Astoria Local Development Coalition pulled out all the stops as usual. Grucci Company fireworks lit up the sky over the Hell Gate Bridge and the Queens Symphony Orchestra entertained the large crowd. It was the orchestra’s first time back to Astoria Park in over a decade.

Welcome to the discussion.
