Attempted rape in Astoria

The NYPD is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted for an attempted rape in Astoria.

On Feb. 23 at 3:25 a.m., a 22-year-old woman was walking on 30th Avenue when a man approached her from behind and pushed her to the ground.

Once he got the victim to the floor, he attempted to rape her.

The woman struggled with the suspect, eventually fighting him off and causing the him to flee.

The victim received cuts and scratches to her legs and buttocks but refused medical attention on the scene.

The suspect is a Hispanic male in his early 30s, who is 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs 145 pounds.

He was caught on surveillance video wearing a jacket, blue jeans and dark sneakers.
