Elected officials, community leaders and residents celebrated It’s My Park Day this past Saturday in Astoria.
They were among thousands of New Yorkers who participated in 150 park improvement projects across the city.
Volunteers met at Astoria Park to clean up the shoreline and participate in new plantings.
Several organizations helped to coordinate the event including Green Shores NYC, the Astoria Park Alliance and the American MidEast Leadership Network
Saturday’s festivities also celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Partnerships for Parks program.
The program encourages community members to assist in maintaining their local parks.
It’s My Park Day included kayaking, food that groups brought for participants and a puppet-making workshop by City Parks Foundation’s Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre.
Following the workshop, the group also performed “Sleeping Beauty.”
