Astoria board says nay to no-car plaza

    Yes that section of Newtown and 30th should be a plaza and no thru-traffic allowed. Benches where people can sit and take a breather "new concept" with the heat index you would think that that is priority as well...
    Elderly and moms with kids that are tired and/or hungry need to sit somewhere -

    I don't live in Astoria anymore but, visit often...
    what Astoria needs ASAP is vertical parking - with all the new construction - some builders incorporate parking facilities below ground.
    Not one has considered "just parking" which would be very lucrative to him and help to alleviate the congestion Astoria residents feel every day - while they fight the "drive into Astoria, park their cars, take train into city - people"
    There are many that do just that. It is frustrating to say the least.
    This should be priority above all else - my opinion!!!

    This was a disgrace. The majority of us at the meeting wanted the plaza: to improve safety and add public space. Still, almost 80% of Community Board members voted against us. That's not representation!
