Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer (D-Sunnyside) declared Sophia Aguirre, a second-grader at PS 150, the winner of the “Curb Your Dog” poster contest at a kickoff event Tuesday.

Sophia’s artwork encourages dog owners to adhere to New York State Public Health Law 1310 and clean up after their pets.

The poster contest was part of the elementary school curriculum to teach students about civic engagement, while helping reduce dog waste near the school.

More than 600 people voted for their favorite poster, according to a press release from the councilman, here in suit. The posters will be distributed throughout his district.

Welcome to the discussion.
