The West Hamilton Beach Volunteer Fire Department will hold a fundraiser this weekend.
The event will be held at the firehouse at 102-33 Davenport Court in Hamilton Beach on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 6 to 10 p.m. The cost of admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. There will be food and prizes.
The department, which was badly affected by Hurricane Sandy, is inviting the community to help raise funds for its operations. All of the proceeds will go to the department.
The WHBVFD lost nearly all of its vehicles and equipment in Sandy. The firehouse was completely flooded during the storm, though firefighters were on duty at the time and saved a few residents from the rising floodwaters. In the weeks after the storm, the firehouse became a center for relief supplies to be distributed in the neighborhood.
Since Sandy, the department has received new fire trucks and ambulances from other vollies from as far away as Mississippi.
