Graffiti is very destructive and hurtful. We can stop and prevent graffiti crimes in the future. As noted at www.DefacingAmerica.com , we need to better connect with our youth and instill attitudes that are respectful of the community and the property of others. Graffiti control laws have their place. Such laws tend to focus on the graffiti vandal. The fear of being caught is not an adequate deterrent. Attitudes that recognize graffiti as hurtful, not harmless, would prevent new recruits from joining the ranks of graffiti writers. Attitudes that recognize graffiti as a crime rather than self expression are the only way to stop the growth in graffiti crimes. Graffiti control books and experts have emerged, yet graffiti continues to grow. We need to invest in graffiti prevention along with enforcement of meaningful graffiti laws and prompt removal of graffiti vandalism.
