A state appellate court has upheld a weapon conviction against Barbara Sheehan, the Howard Beach woman who shot her abusive husband 11 times and killed him in 2008.

A jury in 2011 acquitted Sheehan of murdering her husband, ex-police officer Raymond Sheehan, in their home, but found her guilty on one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

She was sentenced to five years.

Sheehan had claimed self-defense at trial, and had the support of her grown son and daughter who testified to years of abuse and their father’s threats to kill her.

“The majority of the Appellate Division appropriately respected the judgement of the trial court,” Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said in a statement issued by his office Wednesday evening.

“It was the trial court that saw and heard all of the evidence in the case,” Brown said. “It was the trial court that was in the most informed position to balance the equation of what I have often referred to as a tragedy.”

The trial court will make arrangements for Sheehan’s surrender.
