The Scholars’ Academy Seawolves girls softball team are the Public Schools Athletic League’s Class B champions, after they defeated Robert H. Goddard High School’s Lady Jaguars 7-6 in a dramatic game at St. John’s University on June 8.
Down 6-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Seawolves made a six-run comeback, starting with three quick runs to cut the deficit to 6-4.
That’s where the score stayed until the final strike. An error made by the Lady Jaguars led to a batter getting on base. An RBI double and another hit brought in two more runs to win the game — and the championship— for the Seawolves.
Scholars’ Academy, of Rockaway Park, made it to the championship game after dispensing with High School for Teaching 16-10 on May 31 in Staten Island.
