Assemblyman David Weprin (D-Fresh Meadows), center, held a candlelight vigil at the Sikh Cultural Center at 95-30 118 St. in Richmond Hill Monday evening, honoring the six Sikh Americans who were killed one year earlier at a gudwara – a Sikh temple – in Oak Creek, Wis.

After the shooting last August, Mayor Mike Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly visited the Sikh Cultural Center – one of the largest gudwaras in the United States – to offer support to the community.

The center’s chairman, Mohan Singh Khatra, lost an uncle in the Wisconsin shooting, which has been classified as a bias attack.

Welcome to the discussion.
