Howard Beach resident Joel Miele Sr. was recently elected the seventh president of the American Parkinson Disease Association.
Miele, an APDA board member and officer for 23 years, is a professional engineer who served as commissioner of the City Planning Commission and the Departments of Buildings and Environmental Protection, among others.
Miele has long been an active member in the community: he was the past president of the Queens Borough Public Library, and currently serves as president of the Board of Visitors at Creedmoor State Hospital.
Additionally, Miele, a retired U.S. Navy captain, is a member of the American Legion and the Queens Library Foundation. He is also active in the Boy Scouts of America as the executive vice president of the Queens Council.
