Universal Boxing Gym in Ozone Park is home to a diverse group of people who all yearn to become better with each passing day and find the confidence to do so through the sanctuary that has been built for them. Universal Boxing Gym is a venue for developing everlasting friendships, facilitating self-motivation, instilling a strong work ethic, enhancing organizational skills and building identities of resilience and courage. It is a sanctum for adults, teenagers and children to grow physically and mentally as one universal family.

Relying on virtues of love, honor, respect and loyalty, Universal Boxing Gym’s mission is to teach positive life skills and constructive habits that boxing encourages. “Courage begins with heart” is its mantra, not solely meant for the incredible amount of courage required to step into a boxing ring but also for the courage it takes to live our lives positively and successfully and to become positive contributors to our community and moreover successful with our own lives.

Universal Boxing Gym offers a Youth Program Class, Monday through Friday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. where youths experience training that closely resembles the training that professional boxers undergo on a full-time basis. This training includes but is not limited to shadow boxing, sit-ups, rounds on the punching bags, eye-hand coordination exercises with a speed bag, moving drills, jump roping and, ultimately, controlled sparring against peers in the program. Sparring is an optional exercise, not required for participation in the program.

Students grow stronger both physically and mentally. Each trainer brings his or her past experience and training style to offer the participant a unique training experience aimed at helping the participant improve him- or herself both mentally and physically. Through suitable weight training using resistance bands, weights, their own body weight, isometrics, plyometrics and boxing skills, participants gain strength.

Students gain speed through the application of boxing skills on speed bags and footwork drills, which require fast feet and quick muscle movements. They also learn how to workout on the core balls to develop the balance and coordination boxing demands. Agility skills are enhanced as students navigate through exciting obstacle course type training and finally coordination will develop through engagement of shadow boxing.

Universal Boxing Gym is located at 90-14 95 Ave., Ozone Park. For more information, call (718) 323-1300 or email ubgny@gmail.com.
