Republican Anthony Como has officially conceded in his race to upset state Sen. Joe Addabbo (D-Howard Beach) in the 15th Senate District.

After the preliminary results of Nov. 2’s election showed Como trailing by several thousand votes, the Middle Village challenger said he would not concede, citing “confusion in the reporting for a large portion of the election districts.”

However, on Monday Como, a former prosecutor who briefly served on the city council, said he called Addabbo to congratulate him on his victory.

“It was important to me that every vote be properly counted and although there are remaining discrepancies with some of the machines, it is in the best interest of the community that we move forward and put politics aside,” Como said in an e-mailed statement. “We raised issues of great importance to New Yorkers, like lowering taxes and creating a more attractive climate for small businesses. I am also hopeful that some of the government reforms I advocated during my campaign will become a reality.”

Addabbo will begin his second term in Albany in January.
