A small brownout struck Howard Beach on Sunday, leaving more than two dozen homes, as well as the Rockwood Park Jewish Center, in the dark.

According to Con Edison the power went out for 26 customers, including the synagogue, in the vicinity of 85th Street and 157th Avenue at around 10:30 a.m.

A spokesman for the utility said that power was restored to 25 of the 26 customers by 2:30 p.m. Power was returned to the Rockwood Park Jewish Center at 7:30 a.m. on Monday morning, in time for the synagogue’s morning services.

Sunday services at the Jewish center went on in the dark.

A resident reported seeing at least seven Con Ed trucks at the scene working to restore power.

The spokesman said the outage was due to a problem with equipment, but the utility won’t know the cause until the cables are inspected.

Most of Howard Beach, including the area around the Rockwood Park Jewish Center, was without power for 12 days after Hurricane Sandy last October.
