A 25-year-old Howard Beach man faces manslaughter charges after allegedly getting behind the wheel while intoxicated and causing a fatal smashup in Ozone Park on Saturday night.
According to police, Christopher Rivera, who lives on 85th Street, was traveling southbound on Woodhaven Boulevard near 101st Avenue at approximately 10:48 p.m. when he swerved into northbound traffic.
Rivera’s 1995 Honda Accord struck a 1999 Nissan Maxima, driven by an unidentified 66-year-old man. The Maxima then struck a third car.
Responders pronounced the 66-year-old dead at the scene. A passenger in his car’s front seat suffered neck and back injuries. No one in the third car was injured. Both Rivera, who suffered cuts to his back and arm, and the passenger in the Maxima were treated at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.
Rivera, who published reports say works for UPS, faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated in addition, to the manslaughter charge.
He was arraigned on Tuesday night, at which time Judge Steven Paynter set his bail at $250,000.
