Here’s a jobs fair that doesn’t pay — except, that is, for the incalculable, non-monetary benefits that come with volunteering.
It’s Spring into Action, a free volunteer opportunities fair for those 55 and over that will be held next Wednesday, May 20.
The event will draw representatives of organizations from all over Queens that are looking for volunteers. Just some of the entities expected to be there are the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Queens Symphony Orchestra, iMentor, Materials for the Arts, and various hospitals in the borough.
The fair will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Kew Gardens Community Center, located at 80-02 Kew Gardens Road, suite 202. Volunteers will be on hand to answer questions about volunteerism and discuss available positions.
The event is sponsored by RSVP, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, an arm of the Community Service Society, and Jewish Association for Services for the Aged.
The CSS has been a voice advocating for the economic security of low-income New Yorkers for 160 years. JASA and its affiliates have provided social, recreational, health, cultural and educational programs for older persons since 1968.
