Interesting that those 20,000 hours of flight time didn't include a single minute of operating an aircraft with total loss of thrust or splashing into water. Everything Sully did after the strike was learning on the job. He could have prevented it by keeping his eyes focused where they were being paid to focus - straight ahead, not down gawking "the beautiful view of the river". Not only that, if he hadn't froze or turned back to LGA as he advised ATC, he could have saved an $80 million aircraft and his unwitting passengers from a dip in a freezing filthy river. The man forgot everything he ever learned or was supposed to have learned about flying. Thank God for luck and the NY Ferry Service. This man ain't no hero.
