St. John’s University alum Dagmara Wozniak won a bronze medal and helped Team USA to an overall gold in the women’s saber competition in the Pan American Games, which were held in Cartagena, Colombia between June 16 and 21.

Fellow St. John’s alum Daryl Homer took bronze in the men’s individual saber competition but was unable to compete in the team event.

The bronze is the third individual Pan American medal for Wozniak, while Homer earned his second.

Both competed for the United States in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Wozniak, who finished eighth in the Olympics in the women’s saber event, now ranks sixth in the world and second in the United States.

The U.S. took six team and 14 individual fencing medals at the games, with the women taking gold for the seventh straight time.

She is preparing to fence in the Senior World Championships in August.

Homer, the sixth-place finisher in London, is now ranked first in the United States and seventh in the world.
