Assemblyman Rory Lancman (D-Fresh Meadows) announced Tuesday he has filed papers with the Federal Election Commission to form an exploratory committee to run for Congress.

It’s no secret that Lancman has been interested in the seat, now held by Republican Bob Turner. Turner beat Assemblyman David Weprin in a special election last summer to replace Anthony Weiner.

Lancman’s spokesman, Eric Walker, said that the filing is an exploratory stage and that the assemblyman is waiting for the new district lines to be drawn before committing.
