"An earlier version of this article listed Flushing and Newtown high schools as eyed for phase-outs along with Business, Computer Applications & Entrepreneurship High School. However, that is not the case. The two schools are instead being looked at as sites for new colocated schools. We regret the error " Unfortunately, there is no error. DOE will limit the number of incoming freshmen at Newtown and Flushing, and take the cream of the crop for the newer colocated schools. The new schools will be fed resources, while Newtown and Flushing will see decreased funding. Dwindling enrollment and second class citizen status in their own building will be the death knells of these two venerable neighborhoodinstitutions. In a few years they will be gone. A de facto phaseout.
