Pitchers and catchers don’t have to report to Port St. Lucie for another month, but members of the Mets and the team’s front office last week decided to get a different kind of workout — with the Fire Department at its training academy on Randall’s Island.

Chief Operating Officer Jeff Wilpon and pitchers R.A. Dickey, above, Mike Pelfrey, Bobby Parnell and Dillon Gee joined FDNY Commissioner Sal Cassano at “the Rock” last Thursday to learn how to extinguish a car fire and knock down a high-rise blaze, among other exercises.

Parnell and Gee are sons of firefighters in North Carolina and Texas, respectively.
