The New York City Police Department has a community-participation initiative called the Block Watcher Program. It is open to all members of the community and is free of charge.

The Block Watcher Program establishes an informal network for concerned citizens to report emergencies and non-emergencies to the New York Police Department and other agencies.

The NYPD said block watchers are concerned citizens who want to make sure their block and neighborhood are safe. The objective is for residents to watch their block, and if they observe any criminal or unusual activities, to report them to the NYPD for further investigation. No further action or involvement is necessary once police have been contacted.

If you wish to join the Block Watcher program, you can join in a variety of ways, including contacting your local precinct and speaking with the Community Affairs Officer.

To find your local precinct, please visit the NYPD’s website at nyc.gov/html/nypd.

Welcome to the discussion.
