The Taxi and For Hire Vehicle Driver Institute at LaGuardia Community College is now offering courses on New York City geography and landmarks, English for cab drivers and a TLC exam preparation.

The classes are designed “to help prospective and current New York City taxi drivers become more knowledgeable of city streets and other important traffic information as well as earn more money,” the Long Island City college says.

There will be several sections of each class offered. For a schedule, call (718) 482-5335 or visit ace.laguardia.edu/taxi. Registration can be done over the Internet at peopleware.net/ace. Students can take any combination of the courses they wish.

The four-hour prep class for the Taxi & Limousine Commission test costs $20, or it’s free for students who take the mandatory 80-hour taxi training course to get licensed. That costs $325.

There are three geography classes, one for Manhattan, one for Brooklyn and Queens and another for the Bronx and Staten Island. Those are each eight hours and cost $49. The landmarks course, with tips on holidays, traffic patterns and more, is also eight hours for $49. English for Taxi Drivers is four hours and costs $29.

Classes will be given at the LGCC campus at 31-10 Thomson Ave.

Welcome to the discussion.
