On Tuesday, Queens borough presidential candidate Barry Grodenchik announced that he is no longer running.

“At this time, I believe that it is in the best interest of my family, team and party to end my candidacy,” Grodenchik said in a statement. “I decided to run for borough president because I believe that this is a pivotal moment for Queens. I have run a campaign on the idea of bringing people together. In the most diverse county in the world, people should feel more than just welcome, they should feel at home.”

The community board director is expected to return to his previous position of deputy borough president to Helen Marshall, a title he had to drop while raising funds for his campaign.

The former candidate added that he will keep fighting for a better borough.

“I will continue to champion the causes of jobs, education, healthcare, economic development, and Sandy recovery in the days, months and years to come,” Grodenchik wrote. “In my quarter-century of public service, Queens has never let me down, and I hope to keep making my home borough proud.”

Welcome to the discussion.
