A GoFundMe named “Help A Fallen Officer’s Fiance” has been set up for the girlfriend of a police officer who killed himself at his home in Middle Village last Friday.

Officer Nicholas Mencaroni, 40, was in the NYPD for nearly 15 years. He was found by his longtime girlfriend, Jen Carroll.

According to the page, “This fundraiser is for her, to help her deal with the aftermath of this tragedy, seek any professional help she may need to cope with everything, and begin starting her life over after this unimaginable loss.”

As of Tuesday afternoon, $13,115 of the $20,000 goal had been raised.

On the page, there was an outpouring of affection for Mencaroni, who worked in the 106th Precinct.

“Nick had this engaging personality,” Jillian Bonilla said. “You couldn’t help but laugh at most of the things that came out of his mouth. Definitely made a lot of us laugh. He will be greatly missed by his brothers and sisters at the 106.”

Another poster commented, “Nick was one of the funniest/caring people I ever met. I’m gonna miss seeing you everyday at work making jokes and just making my day better the second I spoke to you. I’m gonna miss you dearly Nick. I hope you’re at peace. Love you my brother. I’ll be thinking of you everyday.”

Last March, NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill sent a message to members of the department about suicide prevention.

“We agree, in an ideal world, seeking out help is never a sign of weakness — it’s a sign of great strength,” he said. “If you are having a problem of any kind, please contact the services offered inside and outside the department — because you never have to shoulder the burden alone.”
