The Joint Industry Board of the Electrical Industry, Local Union No. 3 is recruiting 300 electrician apprentices starting July 21, the state Department of Labor announced.

Applications only can be obtained by sending a request, via registered mail, to: Joint Apprentice Committee, PO Box 560249, College Point, NY 11365-0249.

Interested parties should not dawdle. The request letters will be accepted for 10 business days or until 2,000 registered letters have been received, whichever comes first. However, all registered letters postmarked July 21 will be honored with an application even if the number exceeds the 2,000 limit.

The letters must not be postmarked earlier than July 21, and letters sent by certified mail will not be accepted.

No other documents or money should be sent with a letter requesting an application. Those who get one must return it by Oct. 21 and pay a test fee of $25, though requests to waive that due to hardship may be made. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and meet other requirements.

For more information, applicants should contact the union at (718) 591-2000 or the nearest state Department of Labor office.

Welcome to the discussion.
