A woman was arrested at Kennedy Airport for allegedly attempting to smuggle more than six pounds of cocaine through Customs in containers for hair products.

In a statement issued by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Department on Dec. 10, officials said Erika Rodriguez de los Santos was stopped last month upon arrival from the Dominican Republic when inspecting officers determined that five containers of hair products seemed unusually heavy. An oily substance inside allegedly tested positive for cocaine, which authorities said weighed 6.27 pounds.

She is being prosecuted on narcotics-smuggling charges by the office of Loretta Lynch, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.
