A man returning to the United States from Peru was arrested after officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection at John F. Kennedy International Airport allegedly found $121,300 in counterfeit $100 bills in his suitcase.

A statement issued by CBP said Marlon Williams Rodriguez Ezeta, 21, was selected for a random luggage examination on Feb. 21 and presented a single bag.

During the search, officers allegedly found a diary box with a slit on the inside of the cover, revealing what appeared to be counterfeit bills.

Authorities said a total of 1,213 bills were found after examining two wallets, one fabric box and two cloth shoe racks.

The bills and all other evidence were turned over to the U.S. Secret Service for further investigation.
