Arvind Mahankali, center, the Bayside Hills teenager who won the National Spelling Bee last month, joined his family to cut the ribbon on the “DeckZone” at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Corona Park on Saturday.

The “DeckZone” features tennis courts made of sport court material for children 10-years-old and younger to use.

Mahankali, who attends Nathaniel Hawthorne Middle School in Oakland Gardens, won the spelling bee on May 30 after correctly spelling “knaidel,” a popular Jewish food that he enjoyed when he triumphantly returned home to Queens after his victory.

Welcome to the discussion.
