Former Queens Assemblyman and former state Comptroller Alan Hevesi was scheduled to appear before the New York State Parole Board on Wednesday in his second attempt to cut short his four-year sentence on corruption charges, according to published reports.
Hevesi, 72, was the state’s comptroller from 2003 to 2006, when he resigned for improperly using a state vehicle and driver to transport his sick wife.
But it was in 2010 that he pleaded guilty in a “pay-to-play” scandal in which Hevesi invested state pension funds in return for campaign contributions and gifts. He was sentenced to one to four years in prison, and was denied parole last year.
Hevesi, a Democrat from Forest Hills, currently is at the Mid-State Correctional Facility in Marcy, NY.
He represented Forest Hills in the state Assembly from 1971 to 1993, and also served two terms as New York City’s comptroller from 1994 to 2002.
His son, Andrew, is a Democrat serving in the the Assembly. He also represents Forest Hills.
