AWWWWW, I am so sad. Even though I moved to CT, Abbracciamento's holds so many good mememories in my heart. I was raised in Ozone Park and had my parents' 25th wedding anniversary there in the 80's. It was the best time ever.
So sad to see you go, but enjoy your retirement. Good Luck and thanks for the memories

Joe's was the first Italian pizza restaurant in our neighborhood when we were young. My wife and I along with our many friends from 84th Street, Penelope Ave. and 63rd Ave. (Cestare, Burke, Busamato, Manfredi, Clemente, Oliveri, Cohen, Sandstedt, Bohner and so many others) were among Joe's first customers. At first we were only able to afford a slice or two...but as we got older, we had dinner there. Joe was the best!!!! Always cheerful and welcoming. If we didn't have enough money to pay for the extra slices of pizza (it was so good you had to have more) he would say...next time, don't worry about it! We moved to Roslyn in 1967, but when in the old neighborhood, I always stopped in for lunch or diinner. Last visit was for a funeral and I stopped in to say hello to Joe. He was seated at a table, but not himselt. But when I came to speak to him, he recognized me immediately, smiled and welcomed me. Joe was a pillar of the community. He told me of his desire to rid the Drake of the seedy movies, so he bought it with the idea of possibly turning it into a catering hall. He tranformed the entire block to a respectable place where residents could be proud to walk the block.

I will always remember Joe as one of the best!

I hope to visit one last time before you close.

Best to you John and your family in the future!!
