Joseph Caraccia, 65, of Whitestone, pleaded guilty last Friday to larceny charges for failure to pay $335,000 in taxes to the state, the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office said.

Caraccia, who owns two auto body repair shops in Great Neck, LI pleaded guilty to petit larceny, a misdemeanor and his two shops pleaded guilty to the top count of grand larceny in the second degree, a felony. He and his companies also agreed to pay the $335,000 in restitution, half last Friday and the other half when sentenced on May 22.

The sentence is expected to be conditional discharge, based on Caraccia paying what he owes.

The theft was discovered through a tip to the Nassau DA’s Office. Discrepancies between taxes paid by insurance companies to Caraccia’s businesses and the taxes the shops sent the state were found.

Investigators executed a search warrant and recovered records of the businesses. Caraccia was arrested in 2012 and an audit was conducted on the books covering 2009 to 2012.
