Vivaldi Ristorante and Ballroom will open for dinner Monday night at the grand former home of the silent film star Rudolph Valentino at 201-10 Cross Island Pkwy as an Italian fine dining establishment.
The site was previously Caffe on the Green, which was operated by Joseph Franco of the Gambino Mafia crime family, from 1992 until 2009. The Parks Department terminated his license following an investigation by the city, which revealed poor recordkeeping and unreported income. In April 2002, Gambino associate Darren D’Amico was shot in the leg as he stepped outside of the restaurant for a cigarette.
The premises was briefly Valentino’s on the Green and then Patrizia’s for less than a year.
