The U.S. Open had few surprises this week with tennis’ superstars making it to the quarterfinals in play at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Park.
The annual tournament began on Aug. 30 and winds down with the finals on Sunday. Still in contention at press time were women’s favorites Kim Clijsters of Belgium, last year’s winner, and Venus Williams, the only Amerian still in the race.
Among the men are Rafael Nadal of Spain and Roger Federer of Switzerland.
