Members of the St. John’s University Choir in Jamaica got a happy surprise over the holidays when they were greeted by Pope Francis at St. Peter’s Square.

The 62-member group was on a nine-day tour when they learned on New Year’s Eve that the Pope would be making a surprise visit to bless the creche. Choristers were able to assemble in their robes and get to the square in time for the Pope’s visit.

As if on cue, he emerged in a golf cart and group members serenaded him with “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.” The Pope smiled and gave them two thumbs up.

Welcome to the discussion.
