Queens College was to hold its 90th commencement today, May 29 at 9 a.m. on the campus quad.

Alumna Carol Fredericks Jantzen, who has won national recognition in glass chemistry and the disposal of high-level nuclear waste, was to deliver the commencement address.

Class Valedictorian Patryk Perkowski won a Fulbright grant, but turned it down for a job with the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.

Two other graduates have accepted Fulbrights. Karla Padawer Solomon will study in Spain, while Chloe Weiser will go to the Czech Republic.

Two members of the Moraitis family are graduating together. Angela and her daughter, Samantha, are both receiving degrees in psychology.

Basketball player Lisanne Comeau won a 10-month sabbatical in Rwanda with Shooting Touch, an organization that uses basketball as a way to improve the lives of children in Africa. While teaching youngsters about the sport, she will also educate people about disease prevention and nutrition.

Welcome to the discussion.
