Students at PS 115 in Glen Oaks recently presented $1,000 to Services for the UnderServed, for programs to support veterans.
The pre-K to fifth-grade youngsters raised the money by holding a bake sale and by selling tickets to a school dance. They presented their donation to Howard Wheeler, second from right, program director for SUS’ Homeless Veterans Program, who served as a senior chief petty officer in theUnited States Navy for 22 years, and Nicole Robinson, third from right, the SUS service coordinator for supportive services for veteran families, who served two combat tours in Iraq and is currently a staff sergeant in the Army Reserves.
The students learned about issues that many returning veterans will face and the programs that SUS offers to assist these American heroes.
