BSA approves variances for house of worship in Flushing neighborhood

As an active Latter-day Saint (Mormon), I wish to express my support for the BSA's decision to permit the construction of an LDS (Mormon) meetinghouse on the approved site in Flushing. Whenever our construction plans in an area have experienced neighborhood opposition, our representatives in the area have been very careful to meet with the neighbors in an effort to assuage their anxieties and to explain carefully exactly what goes on in our houses of worship, and to describe the worship service and how many members of the Church will be driving to and from the area. Perhaps the readers are familiar with the severe and heated opposition to placing the steeple on our Church's temple in Belmont, MA. After meeting with the leaders of the neighborhood opposition groups, fears were calmed, and friends were made, and the approval was given. Our Church never tries to "bulldoze" our way through the civil procedures; rather, we attempt to conform with all the laws and to calm the concerns of the neighbors in a rational and quiet manner.
