Rep. Grace Meng (D-Flushing) has been selected to serve on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
“I am privileged and honored to have been awarded a spot on one of the most important and influential committees in the House of Representatives,” Meng said.
In her new role in the Foreign Affairs Committee, Meng will oversee U.S foreign policy towards all nations.
The Foreign Affairs panel has jurisdiction over foreign aid and the State Department, and exercises oversight towards key organizations like the United Nations.
“For most members of Congress foreign affairs is an international subject. But here in Queens, foreign affairs is a local issue,” she said.
“The borough is a snapshot of the world, it’s the most ethnically and culturally diverse county in America with people from across the globe,” she added.
Meng will also sit on the House Small Business Committee.
Meng previously served as a member of the New York State Assembly representing Flushing.
