The Samuel Field Y in Little Neck has acquired the Deepdale Community Pool and plans to make upgrades before opening on May 23.

The pool and adjacent property are located across the street from the Y, which is at 58-20 Little Neck Pkwy. It will be known as the Tanenbaum Family Pool at the Samuel Field Y.

Jeri Mendelsohn, executive vice president of the Y, said Monday the facility will be renovated thanks to “an incredible family, the Tanenbaums,” who are providing funding for the updates.

Mendelsohn explained that the pool had been run for 60 years by “astonishing volunteers,” but that they didn’t have the proper tax-exempt status for a nonprofit group to sustain the costs of running a pool.

“We are taking over its management and Deepdale Pool members will be able to have the same seasonal rates,” she said. “We are very excited for the community. This is an example of two nonprofits working together.”

The rates are $475 for adults and $275 for children.

Mendelsohn noted that the Y will be able to use the facility throughout the year because it contains a playground and basketball and tennis courts.

In addition, the site features paddleboard and handball courts, a kiddie pool, volleyball and a food concession. The Y will also offer private swim lessons and late-night activities and entertainment.

Mendelsohn said that swimming lessons will be provided at all age and ability levels. In addition, a special class will be offered to children with autism. There will be health and wellness programs for adults and special events for children.

The Y is also holding a fundraising campaign to meet additional expenses. Purchasing pavers with the donor’s name on it will be one option.

For information on joining or donating funds, call the Y at (718) 428-5050.
