State Sen. Tony Avella, center, recently honored students at PS 221 in Little Neck for being named a National Blue Ribbon School.

With Avella and Principal Patricia Bullard are students Olivia Wronski, Daniel David, Nicole Kim and Jessica Park.

After presenting a proclamation to the school, Avella visited a classroom where he answered questions from the students.

Last fall, the U.S. Department of Education named three Queens schools for the honor. Besides PS 221, they are PS 46 in Bayside and PS 66 in Richmond Hill.

The award is based on academic excellence, progress and improvement.

Welcome to the discussion.
